10 Steps on How to Choose a Dress:

1- Begin by searching for the style you like best. Go online or looking in magazines to determine which style you like. (Be sure to consider if you want to rent or buy a dress. Renting can be cheaper or it may be the same price as buying a dress.)

2- Once you have determined a few styles (or one style) that you like, head to local stores that sell Bridal Dresses. Be sure to take nylons, a camera, shoes that will slip on and off easily (or if you have the shoes you want to wear with your dress, then TAKE THEM), and your mom and/or a good friend.

3- Have fun! Try on many different dresses, even ones that you are not necessarily sure you like the style of. You never know what will look best on you until you have tried on several dresses.

4- Be sure to ask your mom and/or good friends opinion of the dress once you have it on. They will be able to tell you an honest opinion. Even if you may not like their opinion, be sure to value it. They will be able to tell which dress flatters your body. Have them take pictures for you so that you can look at them at home and better determine which dresses you like most.

5- As you try on different dresses, be sure to take note of the comfortability and modesty. Many dresses are sleeveless. Alterations can be made or light jackets can be worn with the dress. There are many options to help you feel beautiful, while still staying covered.

6- Experiment with different shoes (unless you know what shoes you are going to wear), with or without a veil, gloves, ribbons, tiaras, etc. You are preparing for YOUR day. Make sure you explore your different options.

7- You probably will not find the dress that you want after the first store or your first day out looking at dresses. (However, even if you think you have found the dress that you want…) Continue to shop around and look at different dresses.

8- Once you have found the dress that you want, it may be wise to wait a day to purchase the dress. This way you have a day to think about the dress. When you go back again to try on the dress, you will know if you really like the dress and if you want to purchase it.

9- Be sure to purchase the dress early enough to schedule alterations (if necessary) or in enough time to order a jacket for the shoulders.

10- Last, but not least, make sure you have all of the other needed clothing, such as, a good bra, slip, corset (if desired), veil (if desired), gloves (if desired), ribbon (if desired), etc. Anything else you may need or want to complete your wedding dress.
